Russia has threatened Great Britain with strikes on its military assets both inside and outside of Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Cameron’s statements acknowledge Britain’s de facto involvement in the conflict and that Cameron’s words contradict earlier British assurances regarding the initial deliveries of those missiles, stating that long-range weapons provided to Ukraine would not be used against Russia.

The Russian Ministry has declared Cameron’s statements as a serious escalation. “Casey has been warned that in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory with British weapons, all British military facilities and equipment on Ukrainian territory and abroad could be targeted,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The Russian Ministry stated that Cameron’s remarks are considered a serious escalation. “The ambassador is called upon to reflect on the inevitable catastrophic consequences of such hostile steps by London and to immediately and unequivocally refute the warmongering provocative statements of the Foreign Office leadership.”

Cameron, during his visit to Kiev last week, told Reuters that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons provided by Britain for attacks on targets inside Russia, and that the decision whether to do so or not lies with Kiev.

Reuters was unable to immediately obtain comment from British officials on Monday.

Sharp Russian reactions

Recently, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that statements from the British Foreign Minister indicate an acknowledgment of the West waging war against Russia through “Ukrainian hands.” Zakharova characterized Cameron’s remarks as further evidence of the hybrid war waged against Russia by the West, vowing that Russia would respond and continue to respond.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov underscored that this represents a direct escalation of tension over the Ukrainian conflict, posing a potential threat to European security.

Notably, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the imminent commencement of Russian military exercises involving non-strategic (tactical) nuclear weapons, marking the first such occurrence in modern Russian history.
